A rainy day visit to Doncaster on February 20 1977 finds 08057 withdrawn and awaiting stripping and cutting up. Having spent its entire career on the Eastern Region it was withdrawn from Healey
Mills during July 1976. By April 1977 the cutters at Doncaster would have done their job.

Another visit to Doncaster, this time on October 23rd 1977 finds Thornaby based 08174 awaiting repairs to a slightly damaged cab. Another Class 08 that spent its entire life on the Eastern Region, 08174 would remain
in service until August 1981.

A somewhat crappy shot of 08179 'on display' at Derby Works Open Day in September 1975. Whilst shunting parcel stock at Stafford, the Crewe based shunter had tangled with 84005 on May 22 1975, had been removed to Derby for evaluation, withdrawn in June 1975, eventually being
towed down to Swindon for cutting up during August 1976.

In a valiant attempt to escape from Tinsley on April 21st 1979 08223 and two other shunters tried to leave the premises by accessing the nearby Tinsley Parkway. Without rails to follow their flight was brief, 08223 ending up with minor damage and an inevitable trip to Swindon (seen here May 5th 1979). Here the cutters gave 08223 the freedom it wanted, leaving the Works as scrap to become fodder
steel for tin cans, motor cars & paper clips.

The holding sidings at York on August 15th 1981 reveal a mangled 08252. Withdrawn the same month it would eventually be dispatched to Swindon for the coup-de-grace during April 1982. Photograph courtesy Adrian Healey. |

The spring sunshine catches 08283 at Reddish on April 11th 1980, displaying a broken connecting rod, perhaps caused by a seized traction motor. 08283 spent eleven years allocated to Longsight prior to withdrawal and breaking up at Booth Roe, Rotherham. |

It seems the NCB were adept hands at butchering redundant Class 08's, here former Allerton based 08679 slowly disintegrates at North Gawber Colliery on August 31st 1985. It would be left for Booth Roe, Rotherham to put the '08' out of its misery during April 1986. |
