A Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all.

Many thanks for your continued support of the website with your notes, news, photos and other details. It is appreciated! Currently most of the updates are of a minor nature, a picture here, additional details there.

Hopefully the New Year will bring 'new' stories to tell.............

October 8th 2011

Well summer has drifted away and the evenings are closing in. The website accelerates into its 14th year of existance, for better or for worse. Currently there are no new pages anticipated, rather it is a case of adding to the existing pages as new information or pictures becomes available. These minor updates are not normally featured on the 'update' page. Certainly at the moment some of the Sulzer powered ships have captured my attention, especially those built prior to World War II. It is perhaps not so much the ships themselves but the era that they sailed through that has so many wonderful inter-connected stories to tell, from a time far removed from today.

After all, today information about an event anywhere in the world can reach you in minutes, you can travel almost any place in the world within a day, or see it instantly from such resources as Google Earth. Which can on the face of it take away some of the wonder and the fun of travel & exploration.

But having lived through some of the stories in the website (Bolivia, Australia) and become so close to some of the other storytellers (Liberia, Sierra Leone & Romania) there is nothing like getting out there into the world and experiencing it! Don't delay - time marches on regardless!

With the Christmas Season approaching a new offering from Steve Morris of Ty Mawr Publications is a great choice if the North Wales route and/or period English Electric traction is to your (or your spouse/friend/acquaintence's) liking.

The hardcover book (size 11.75" x 8") runs to 96 pages featuring B&W and colour views featuring the route from Chester to Holyhead, including the Trawsfynydd, Caernarfon & Amlwch branches. Obviously English Electric Type 4 (Class 40) traction predominates, with views from their arrival on the route in 1959 through to 1983.

The work of many photographers is included providing a variety of styles and locations, covering passenger, freight, depots and other scenes. My favourites are the views of the 1960/70's era Freightliner trains, especially some of the colour views of these workings.

The book is available from major booksellers, or through Ty Mawr Publications. Cover price is GBP17.95.

Updated page: Romania 060 DA locomotives : a recent visit to Romania by a contributor features a number of views and notes including some fine views of the aging 6cyl & 12cyl Sulzers still in service.

Although major updates to the pages are currently not so frequent, regular additions do continue to take place on a regular basis as new views and notes are added to existing pages.

Many thanks to everyone who stops by the website and to those who continue to send great information and images.

December 17th 2010

One page has been updated, but in doing so the page was split in two because of its size - the page about Class 24's D5102 - D 5111 (24102 - 24111). the years 1960 - 1966 & 1974 to withdrawal and: the Tyne Dock - Consett ore train years.

I realise the updates have been thin on the ground of late, but I do appreciate all the emails and materials sent by many readers which continue to allow the pages to be improved and gaps and omissions dealt with. And I apologise that it often takes a while for the information to be added to the relevant pages.

And a Merry Christmas & Prosperous New Year to everyone!

September 5th 2010

Two pages updated recently: Memories from Nuneaton and: the CFR Roumanian 1938 double locomotive.

August 7th 2010

Summer is now well underway and with it the lazy, hazy days of warmer temperatures, longer evenings and holidays. Which means not too much has been done to the website, mostly small additions, corrections and changes to a number of pages.

Meanwhile some plonker, for want of a better description, and one that can be used in public, recently attacked this website & many others with malware to redirect readers to some Russian hosted site claiming to offer anti-virus/malware services! This has taken quite a bit of effort to take care of the damage done, a clean up has taken place, hopefully the intrusion by these dickheads has been fully contained and the method by which the attack was launched has been closed off.

Since websites do take quite a bit of maintenance, upkeep and financial cost the thought did occur that maybe it was time to move on................

But for the moment common sense will prevail and the continued search the things related to Sulzer powered rail vehicles will roll on!

One page updated recently was the Australia's NSU Class.
