A dramatic view of a Class 24 northbound just south of York station, about to go under the large bridge at Holgate Bridge Jct. The locomotive is one of the early Derby batch D5001 - D5019, with the extra grille and headboard brackets. A little research could pinpoint it further. Photograph courtesy EA Wood. |

A pair of Class 24's at Longhedge Junction in South London. Presumably LMR machines with one of the summer dated services to the Kent coast. They are from the second series of machines, still retaining the larger boiler water tank and are probably not too long out of Works. Photographer not known. |

A BR publicity view circa 1969, believed near Aviemore on the Highland mainline. Identifying the Class 24 is a little trickier, a job for a rainy day. |

No distinguishing marks on this Class 25 as it heads north at Copmanthorpe (a few miles south of York), with a fine looking consist, a right royal mix of wagons & loads. Just a typical Class 25 in BR blue/yellow with its last overhaul having taken place at Derby. Photograph courtesy EA Wood. |

A strange combination on the Heysham - Leeds oil tanks, frequently a Class 24 would be on the front, here it is a Class 25, the number is not clear, it may be D5207 - now lost in time. The location is Calverley & Rodley - closed to passengers March 22nd 1965, the train is heading towards Leeds on the 'Up Fast', (the Zandos factory on the right is still there). Now only two tracks remain and they are electrified. Photograph courtesy EA Wood. |

Its a damp June 18th 1976 as an unidentified Class 25 stands at Aberystwyth with a short freight which includes one of the Vale of Rheidol steam locomotives. The Class 25 number looks like it might be 2515?, its last repair was at Derby and the boiler room grille is sheeted over. Photograph courtesy EA Wood. |
